In 2017, director Christopher Landon and writer Scott Londell came out with the slasher movie, “Happy Death Day.” The movie was a hit, so they came out with a sequel, “Happy Death Day 2 U.”
“Happy Death Day 2 U” was less of a slasher movie and it’s considered to be comedic.
The movie began with Ryan. Ryan is a friend of Carter, who’s the main character Tree’s boyfriend. He begins experiencing what Tree experienced in the first movie: a repeat of the same day and being murdered during the night. He tells Carter and Tree, they come to the conclusion it’s his project in lab. Then, Tree starts experiencing her the same cycle from the first movie. Waking up on her birthday in Carter’s bed. She already knows what’s going to happen, but she needs to figure out how to stop the cycle.
As the movie went on, the plot developed with the project Ryan and his friends made and what it did to her. It put her into an alternate universe, where her life is completely different. In the one she’s in, she’s with Ryan and his friends trying to figure out what will send her back to her original universe. She has a set back, though. In the universe she’s in, her mother’s still alive, but her boyfriend is with one of her sorority sisters that she isn’t fond of. She is torn at what decision to make and it comes down to the final minutes. Everything falls into place for her.
I found the second movie to be better than the first movie. There was more of a developed plot and story to tell in the second. The first one was too much of a repeat with not much to tell. The second was more exciting and could get your mind going. Movies that can get you to think are pleasing to people who love a challenge for their brains. I felt like the reasons why this had been happening to Tree were explained better than before. In the first movie, they threw it all in at the end. In the new one, you go step by step finding out. I was shocked with this movie because usually with movies like this, a sequel would be awful. I was impressed.
Overall, I’d recommend to see this movie. I’d see the first one if you haven’t, because you might be a little confused with what’s going on.
