The Cougars tackled homecoming week with pride.

New Prairie’s Student Senate were the masterminds behind the Cougar Homecoming week.

“This Homecoming week had been one of the most successful ones yet,” said Troy, the Vice President of Student Senate. Her and Megan Boyd were the backbone to Homecoming week.

As every other year, the school had a spirit week. Each day, the students showed personality through their ideas for the day.

“We found a spirit week idea on the internet that matched the theme Homecoming perfectly,” Troy said.

Monday was “home team” day, which is when students dress up in sports gear. Tuesday was “make yourself at home day”, also known as pajama day. Wednesday was twin day. Thursday was split into a different theme for each class, but it was the seniors traditional toga day. Lastly, Friday was class shirt day.

Monday was the day of the powder puff game. This has become an annual thing for New Prairie. The senior girls took on the junior girls for a two-period game. The seniors came out strong with a win.

“The powder puff game is what all us girls look forward to and I’m glad that this will carry on every year,” said Troy.

Wednesday was the day of the parade and class olympics.

“Each class really pulled through with the style of their floats,” Troy said. Student senate put together a float for each class and rode them with other members of their class.

Later on Wednesday was class olympics. In recent years, there has been issues with this. Each year, less students sign up which makes it harder to have it.

“Our main conflict every year is student involvement,” said Troy. This year’s class olympics went on plan.

“Even though we didn’t have as many students participate as we’d wanted, everything went the way we wanted it to,” Troy said.

Friday was the night of the Cougar Homecoming game. The Cougars took on the South Bend Adams Eagles. New Prairie came out on top with a win of 35-14.

“The Cougar Crazies always bring the Cougar spirit, but that night you could feel the adrenaline,” said senior Claudia Bisping.

Seniors Javier Padilla and Mia Bauer were crowned Homecoming King and Queen during halftime.

The dance was the Saturday after the game.

“This homecoming was the best one out of all four years I’ve been here,” Bisping said.

Troy said that the student senate decided to put the dance in the Cougars’ main gym.

“I was pleased with the decision we made. The decorations just looked better and there was more room for everyone,” said Troy.

The dance went accordingly and that ended homecoming week for the Cougars.
