Below freezing weather is almost here and being outside in the cold during flu season is dangerous. People could easily get sick with a cold or the flu.

According to Tylenol.com, you can prevent illness by drinking fluids and having a balanced diet, avoiding other people who are sick or say their throat hurts, washing their hands for 20 seconds, and keeping their hands away from eyes and nose.

But what if you already have a cold? Ways to stop a cold or the flu, are rest, avoiding stress, drinking fluids such as hot tea and honey, eating protein, staying away from other people, and sanitizing your items such as a desk, according to webmd.com.

Another easy way to prevent the flu is to just get a flu shot. A flu shot is a vaccine that develops antibodies in the body that protect you from infection.

Getting a flu shot is important because the shot protects people from the flu which could be serious.

The flu can be dangerous to young children, people who have health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, or diabetes, and the elderly.

The flu could cause hospitalization, serious complications, or even death.

People should get a flu shot every year right before flu season, which is preferably towards the end of October.

If you want to get a flu shot next year, some places to go in New Carlisle, Laporte County, and St. Joseph County are CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart.

You can also prevent illness by taking Vitamin C supplements. Another easy way to get Vitamin C is eating Defense Halls, which is a brand of cough drops. Halls also sells defense drops that contain Vitamin C and other things that can help prevent illness.

A tasty way to prevent illness is eating vegetables. Add the rainbow to your meals.

People should also exercise daily to keep in shape. Even just a half hour of working out could do the trick.

People tend to not want to work out when it gets cold outside, but you don’t necessarily have to exercise outside. Do some things inside or go to a gym.

According to Dr. Oz, lack of sleep easily leads to sickness. Teens should at least get nine hours of sleep each night, too.
