Locals have much to look forward to as they await the NPHS Band holiday concert. The NPHS Band continues to rehearse for their holiday concert, which will be full of fun tunes that everyone can enjoy! The NPHS band concert will be filled with classic Christmas carols and unique arrangements of timeless songs.
Head Drum Major Taylor Calkins stated that the band, “rehearses during the day and will eventually start rehearsing after school.”
Band Director Patrick Teykl stated that the band is, “going to have a pretty big variety, mostly just the classics like Sleigh Ride.”
In addition, while the band will also be playing Christmas classics, Teykl also stated that they will be playing some melodies, but with a new twist, “we are going to do a rock type version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
While the audience can look forward to a wide variety of Christmas classics Teykl stated that they can also expect, “an arrangement of Canadian Brass.”
Aside from the wide selection of music, Teykl said his favorite piece out of all of the other arrangements. He stated that his favorite piece was Sleigh Ride, because, “it's a classic and the kids love it.”
Calkins also claimed that Sleigh Ride is, “the only piece,” she likes to play, because it is, “the only one that's hard to play.”
Teykl continued to go more in depth with how much of a challenge preparing this well known piece was, “we are playing the original version, so it's not easy,” Teykl continued, “I'd rather give them,” referring to his band students,” a challenge then something easy.”
While Teykl expressed his favorite piece, he also voiced his opinion on what arrangement he thought the audience might enjoy.
Teykl said that Sleigh Ride “ could be a popular pick, it's between that one and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Teykl stated that the audience will probably enjoy the songs that one of his College professors would call a ,” toe tapper, which is when the people in the audience are dancing along.” Teykl continued by stating that the audience will, “recognize it, because it's a good melody.”
In addition, Teykl vocalized how the structure of the concert will work by stating that the concert will start with Jazz band, “which is typically about 25-30 minutes and 25-30 minutes of concert band.” In addition, Teykl stated that, “sometimes kids will do feature acts, so we will feature them in the concert band piece.”
Calkins also informed she can, “almost guarantee,” that the kazoo club will be featured at some point during the concert.
With all this exciting information, the audience has plenty to look forward to at this upcoming band concert. With a large array of pieces and melodies that the whole family can enjoy, this concert will be a perfect way to start off anyone's holiday season.
