The presumption of innocent until proven guilty is a basic judicial right, unless I disagree with them. In many other assault cases, the accused is automatically assumed innocent. Unfortunately, this has not applied to Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
On July 30, 2018, Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party, more than three decades ago. This unfortunate event stalled the confirmation of Kavanaugh, who was on the fast track to becoming Supreme Court Judge. So, if innocent until proven guilty, why was Kavanaugh’s confirmation stalled? Perhaps the “#metoo” movement is to blame.
“#metoo” is a movement against sexual assault and violence, it states that we should always believe women that have accused someone of sexual assault. Judge and jury should not be forced to believe someone because of their gender or circumstance. For Kavanaugh to be presumed guilty is unconstitutional.
“Look, we’re not in a court of law. We’re actually in a court of credibility at this point.” Mazie Hirono said according to Quartz at Work.
Is Ford’s story considered credible? I sure hope not, the amount of gaps in her story is shocking. The “forgotten” details are conveniently placed so they can’t prove or disprove her claim. If this event was a big enough deal to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault, why did she never mention it until a few months ago?
“If we are going to absolve her of dishonesty at this point, we must believe that her memory lapses are just coincidentally convenient, and that gaps in her story are coincidentally convenient, and the changes in the story are coincidentally convenient,” Matt Walsh stated in a Dailywire article. “The coincidences are simply too convenient and too numerous to truly be coincidental.”
Ford’s ex-boyfriend issued a sworn statement claiming that Ford never once mentioned any sexual assault throughout their five year relationship, nor expressed any fear while recreationally flying. Both of which indicate that she lied under oath.
Ford’s ex-boyfriend is another person who denies her story. If Ford is telling the truth, her ex, Kavanaugh, Mark Judge, along with two other witnesses are all lying. That adds to be five against one, which is not benefitting Ford’s case.
Kavanaugh, who has written more than 300 opinions and heard more than 2,000 cases, is extremely qualified to be Supreme Court judge. Kavanaugh is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, and is a partner in a respected law firm.
Here’s the million dollar question, if this was a big enough deal to make it public, why have all accusations stopped once Kavanaugh was confirmed?
