Netflix is working to create an interactive “choose your own adventure” TV series, using “Black Mirror” as a vessel.
Popular movie and television streaming service, Netflix, is developing interactive TV. The service has already been experimenting with animated children’s shows, but plans to expand into live action content.
Netflix wants to create an interactive season of the hit show “Black Mirror,” with a test episode to start. The episode is set to be added before the end of 2018, but most extra details are still being kept under wraps. That being said, viewers can expect a blend of video game elements and regular television content. Junior Dylan Liggett, who uses Netflix everyday, mentioned how he had heard of Netflix’s plans to create an interactive show.
“I think that it’s a good concept but it has to be executed the right way for people to enjoy it,” said Liggett.
Liggett also mentioned that while he isn’t a “Black Mirror” fan, he thinks that was the right option to go with.
The first animated show Netflix launched was “Puss In Book: Trapped In An Epic Tale.” The show centers around the “Shrek” character Puss in Boots trapped in a storytelling book, and the audience has to help him escape. Netflix has two other interactive children’s shows “Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters,” and “Buddy Thunderstruck,” with the former being a stop motion series about a dog, and the latter being a traditionally animated cartoon.
The idea is spawned from a series of children’s books titled Choose Your Own Adventure. The first story was published in 1979, titled “The Cave of Time.” The concept was created by Edward Packard, who wrote the original books, and was published by Bantam Books.
