Should Our School Switch to Two Lunches?

For a long time our school schedule has had three lunches. Our school decided to do a test run of a new schedule consisting of only two lunches, but should we go to a two lunch schedule? I strongly believe that we should stay with the three lunch schedule.

There are many pros to switching schedules to a two lunch schedule. The two lunch schedule makes it so there are less bells ringing during classes for students with A or B lunch. It allows more time for lunch so students have more time to eat. It also allows for a less confusing schedule for new freshman.

When there are three lunches, there are bells that ring during classes to dismiss students with a different lunch. When the bell rings during class it can be distracting to students. When the lunches are dismissed, the students talking in the hallway can also be distracting.

Since there are two lunches, there can be some adjustments to the schedule giving more time for students to eat lunch. Some students have to come from the other side of the large school, causing them to have less time to eat from waiting in line. Students can then have a longer break during school instead of having only 25 minutes.

With only two lunches, it can result in an easier to understand schedule. For a new student, the current schedule can be confusing to understand before getting used to it. Instead of having to look at several separate parts of the schedule for a different time lunches, it is easier to look to the left or right side of the schedule to understand which schedule you follow.

There are some cons to the new two lunch schedule. It causes the lunch room to be full of students with little room left, and much longer lunch lines, which will leave students with less time to eat their lunch.

A full lunch room can cause problems. Students want to sit with their friends and it’s going to be more difficult with the less room. A full lunch room can cause the room to become louder with the extra students.

The extra students in the lunch line can cause students to wait in line longer if their class is far away. With less time to eat students would have to eat their food quickly in limited time they have left, which might not guarantee they can finish their lunch, even with some extra time. When some students are done eating there are still some students waiting in line, which causes congestion when dumping trays.

I say we should just stay with the same school day schedule we’ve always had. Since all of the students are used to the normal schedule already, it would be more difficult to change it. We can continue with our regular schedule with our three separate lunches.
