Should Parking Be Assigned?

When it comes to parking, New Prairie has been easy-going about where students can park, but should it change? While there are pros and cons to both assigned parking and unassigned parking, I think it would be best if we keep with unassigned parking.

Here are some benefits of assigned parking:

-Staff can find a students car if need be

-Students are guaranteed a spot

-Construction workers won’t interfere with parking

Here are couple of disadvantages to assigned parking:

-A student might be assigned a spot far from the school

-Locating a students car is a rare occurrence

Here is a few benefits to unassigned parking for students:

-Students who arrive early can get a closer parking spot to the school

-It gives students freedom of where they want to park

Here are some disadvantages of unassigned parking:

-Staff won’t be able to locate a students vehicle without the students help

-With activities before school, students could be forced to choose a parking spot farther away from the school

While there are some advantages to assigned parking it would be better if we stayed with a first come, first served basis. Students would rather have the choice to do something instead of being forced to do something. Instead of doing assigned parking for students next school year, we should just stay with the first come first served basis.
