Genre: Horror (Rated: R)

Director: Nicholas McCarthy

Personal Ratings: 7/10

The movie overall was a thrill and definitely something for anyone interested in mythology. Actors, Taylor Schilling, and Peter Mooney are in the movie along with the young boy, Jackson Robert Scott, “Georgie” from the famous “IT” (2017). Jackson plays the main role as Miles, son of Sarah and John. Miles excels with intelligence from just a couple months old and is considered to be a genius. The young boy is trapped with two souls leading to the plot of reincarnation. Though the movie was predictable, it was very interesting and well played. There were events such as the murders committed that kept me on my toes.

Will there be a sequel?

The plot is set almost instantly. About 15 minutes into the movie you are able to put the pieces together to figure out what’s happening. However the end puts a little twist on the plot, leaving viewers asking,“what’s gonna happen next?” The last scene of the movie leaves subtle hints of another movie before ending with a cliffhanger.

Public Ratings

The overall rating is a 44% from Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 6/10.

Thoughts on this film?

“The Prodigy” was well put together with clever ideas throughout the film, such as Miles and his Skeleton Halloween costume. Miles has two different colored eyes matching the killer, one is blue, one brown. When he cleans his face so only half the skull is painted, there was an intense suspenseful feeling for all who watched.

Do I recommend this movie?

Yes, I would recommend this movie to anyone who has an interest in horror films. Keep in mind it is rated R and you must show ID before entering. The film was released on February 8th, 2019. Some things you may find in this movie would be murder, reincarnation, jump scares, and gory images. The cliffhanger at the end is a slight disappointment, but it leaves room to get into more interesting parts of the movie if and when there is a sequel. Not much information was provided about the killer, which makes me wonder, will the next Prodigy movie give more background on him?
