Don’t Go Bookless Over Summer!

The NPHS librarian, Blake Holman, is kind enough to let the student body check out books for over the summer.

The NPHS library is going under construction over the summer, so all the books need to be packed up and put into a safe storage area until the renovations are finished the following school year.

Checking out a book for the summer isn’t a hard task. If students would like to take home a book they already have checked out, they can renew that book. Students may also check out any other books.

Mr. Holman proclaimed, “any book that a student checked out during the school year will need to be renewed if you want to take it home for the summer.”

As much as books are loved, there is a limit to how many books can be checked out at once.

“Students can check out 7 books at a time for the summer, which is the same as during the school year,” stated Mr. Holman. “We have a few 800+ page behemoths, one of which would probably be enough to satisfy you for a whole summer.”

There is a wide variety of books to pick from in the NPHS library, so think twice about which books you’d want to take home.

Taking the books home is a big privilege, so there are some simple requirements.

Holman added, “The requirement is easy. You have to sign one of these little agreements. You can tell they're pretty unofficial. I'll give you your signed agreement as a reminder of your commitment and as a possible bookmark.”

The large New Prairie library collection is great, but that also means packing up all those books and getting the books back from the summer is going to be a lot of work for the librarian.

“Mr. Tekyl and Mr. Bennett have already offered their students as helpers, so I think I'll have all the help I'll need. For most people, returning the books is the best way to help,” Holman said.

A neat fact about the library, Holman shared is, “We have about 8,000 books. They're for [students] use. There were about 1,900 checkouts this year so far, which is up roughly 10% from last year. Good job, everyone!”

If any student or staff member would like to recommend a book for the library, they can go to the library website on the school page and let Mr. Holman know.
