Star Wars saga ends but legacy continues

On December 20th, the 9th Star Wars movie, “The Rise Of Skywalker”, was released. This was the ending to the Star Wars saga and the final movie in the sequel trilogy. 

       The newest trilogy includes first, “The Force Awakens” followed by “The Last Jedi” and finally, “The Rise of Skywalker”

      The trilogy started off with “The Force Awakens”. Released in December of 2015, this movie focuses on Rey, Finn, Poe and Han Solo while they search for Luke Skywalker. They are led by General Leia Organa against Kylo Ren and the First Order. 

      According to buzzfeednews.com, “‘The Force Awakens” opened with record-setting $529 million worldwide.”

      The next movie of the trilogy is “The Last Jedi”. This 8th episode of the saga was released in December of 2017 and follows eager Rey wanting to learn the ways of the force. Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order against Leia and the Resistance. 

      According to forbes.com, “The Last Jedi has crossed $1.31 billion mark at the global box office, including $700m overseas,” they said.

      Finally, finishing off the 9 episode saga, is “The Rise of Skywalker”. This final episode of the series was released in December last year. It follows along with the rebels trying to find the evil Emperor Palpatine. Lead by Finn and Poe, the resistance must put a stop to the First Order while Rey goes on to confront Kylo Ren. 

      Since the movie came out it just recently hit $1 billion at the global box office, according to the StarWars Instagram. 

      Fool.com stated, “Atom Tickets reported that during the first hour of pre sales on Monday, the upcoming Star Wars film eclipsed the record set by Avengers earlier this year -- beating its take by a massive 45%,” stated Danny Vena, author of the article. 

      This final movie ending the saga, which started more than 42 years ago, was a split between amazing and not so good reviews.

      A poll put up on Schoology gave the NPHS students a chance to voice their opinions on the movie. 

      The results ended with 53.3% of the responders loved it, 16.7% have never seen it, 26.7% said it was okay. There’s only a sliver of students who did not like the movie. 

      Senior Katrina Wilson, for instance, loved it. 

      She said, “I think the movie should have been longer to wrap it all up but other than that I think with what they had they went with it very well and I enjoyed the movie.”

     On the other hand, junior Allende Bilbao Yagüe says, “I liked the action and the visual effects, but I didn’t like the story line.”

      Similarly, senior Chandler Lee, voted it was okay, but enjoyed the visuals as well saying, “Whole trilogy just isn't anything new or thrilling. Visually it's amazing, some could say stellar. But aside from the visuals and audio, it's pretty bland.”

      Freshman Carson Moore loved the movie.

      He said, “I thought it brought a good ending to the movie and a great end to the saga because it first of all finished the main story while patching up some plot holes.”

      Finally, sophomore Nolan Jonas loved the movie too and the table turning events included.

      “It was a great way to end off the saga with twists here and there that changed my point of view on the whole series entirely,” he said.
