The Lady Cougars softball team have started off the 2019-2020 season dominating, winning their first five out of seven games to start the year.

“This is definitely one of my favorite teams because our team is so young. After losing 8 seniors last year there were a lot of spots to fill,” said Amanda Trojanowski, first time captain and senior leader. “There are three freshmen that start on a regular basis and they bring a lot of energy to the team. There is a lot of talent on the team as well so it’s fun to win.”

Trojanowski has high expectations for this team, such as winning Sectionals.

“This may seem like a small goal, but it hasn’t been done in over a decade. We definitely have the talent to do it this year. St.Joe is the team to beat in our sectional,” said Trojanowski.

“Out of all four years playing on the high school team, I think this is the best team so far. We work together as a team,” said Lauren Wilcoxson, also a first year captain. “We push each other to not give up, and we have great talent,” she added.

Each girl is pushing one another to be the best. They make sure there is no wasted reps and no one takes it for granted.

Wilcoxson said she wants the team to upgrade the way they play when harder teams come to the field. She wants this team to go far but it starts with beating the harder teams like St.Joe.

This team has the talent to make a deep run past sectionals, but they need to clean up errors and continue to put runs on the board first.

These girls can put up runs, though. In just eight games, they’re averaging just under nine runs a game.

New Prairie softball has an exciting team and it’ll be exciting to see what they can do this season.
