New Prairie High School Track and Field has exceeded expectations for the 2019 track season.
New Prairie started the season off with a third place finish at the Wheeler Bearcat invitational.
Jacob Corbett and Tim O’Laughlin led the way with first place finishes in the 800m and 3200m. Corbett moved up to 24th in the 1600m in the state.
Once senior night came around the corner, the team did everything to win. They had twelve 1st place finishes and six 2nd place finishes, capping off an amazing home running season for the seniors.
They then faced off against Penn and John Adams, where they received a third place team finish.
Corbett dominated his events receiving first places in both 1600m and 3200m. Tyler Graeber also finished with a first place in long jump with a (19’3.75”).
Their goal is to place as high as they can in each event so their team points are higher than their opponents’.
Corbett plans on trying to break records, such as the 3200m, where he already has the 7th fastest time in school history.
Boys’ varsity track finished 5th at the NIC(Northern Indiana Conference) tournament, where twelve other schools competed against them.
Boys’ track came in first in three meets going into the NIC Championships, where they set the bar high.
O’Laughlin finished in first winning the 3200m. Corbett also added the 800m and 1600m to the top finishes as well.
Corbett’s personal goal for this season is to make it to state. He wants to do what he’s done all year and dominate at state.
When he’s racing, he’s always got the possible outcomes in his head, but he always reverts back to his game plan and always executes his game plan before anything else.
The boys await there sectional draw and are all fighting for chance of going to state.
