Catch a cold with these winter activities

The winter season is the perfect time to have some fun, enjoy family time, and stay warm! Staying warm inside, watching Christmas movies, ice skating, and sledding are the most popular activities that the Cougars like to do.

     Teacher Jennifer Soos gave some ideas and explained her traditions during these cold, brisk months. 

     “Staying inside where it’s warm and dancing with my kids in the living room,” Soos explained. 

      Ice skating is a very popular activity to do during the cold months.

      “Ice skating is also a blast because I’m better than my husband,” Soos stated.

     Sophomore Ellie Michiaels, also shared some of her activities she does in the winter months.

      “Ice skating because it is funny to watch my friends fall,” Michiaels explained.

     Sophomore Brittney Sanders shared her tradition she loves to do in the winter months.

     “I sleep during the winter time, I hate the cold so I hibernate. I only come outside of the house for school,” Sanders explained.

Howard Park, is a unique ice skating path that offers DJ on Friday nights, and also offers hot cocoa for the cold nights. Location: 219 S St Louis Blvd, South Bend, IN, 46617.

Swiss Valley, is a ski and snowboard area, with 3 runs, 2 terrain parks, and 7 lifts. It includes a lounge with food and hot cocoa to warm up and fill up after a long day of snowboarding. Location: 13421 Mann St, Jones, MI, 49061

Winding Brook Park, is one of the best Christmas light shows locally, drive through the neighborhood in your warm car and look at spectacular Christmas lights.  Winding Brook Park Christmas light show started on December 6th and runs through December 25 from 6pm to 10pm. Location: Winding Brook Dr, Penn Township, IN, 46545.

St. Patrick’s County Park, is a great place for sledding, with a huge hill to sled down. The dates start daily on December 26th through January 5th and January 11th through March 12th on weekends only from 11a.m to 5p.m (snow conditions permitting). There is a gate fee plus $4 per person. Location: 50651 Laurel Rd, South Bend, IN, 46637.

Central Park Plaza, is an ice skating rink located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Skate admission is $4.00, and skate rentals are also $4.oo. To check hours go visit their website: http://www.centralparkplazavalpo.com. Location: 55 Napoleon St, Valparaiso, IN,  46383.

Navy Pier, is a place full of fun and holiday spirit, Navy Pier offers a winter wonder market full of holiday fun, starting from November 29th to December 24th. Location: 600 E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611.

South Bend Civic Theater, this theater is featuring the famous Elf movie starting from November 29th to December 22. Location: 403 North Main Street, South Bend, IN. Website: http://sbct.org/shows/2019/elf/
