The Cinderella Musical is coming to New Prairie’s new auditorium on the 15th and 16th of November at 6 pm and on the 17th at 2 pm.

Tickets for students and children are $5 and tickets for adults are $8.

Theater director, Kortney Brennen, with the assistance of James Bennet, chose Cinderella

“A main consideration that’s made when choosing a certain musical is whether or not NP has enough people who can fill the roles. A lot more girls audition than guys, so I try to find musicals that have largely female roles,” announced Brennen.

As the lead directors go through many musicals and choose the best one, they also have to think about how to schedule rehearsals and how they will be run and set the prices for tickets.

Many students auditioned for the Cinderella musical and with so many students, the rehearsals need to be organized.

“Usually, we try to balance music (vocal) rehearsals, blocking, and choreography rehearsals in the beginning.  Eventually, once we get those basics down, we begin to run through the acts fixing things as needed. We also need to make time to fit costumes, figure sets/props, lighting, and sound,” said Brennen.

Shorty after the rehearsals are out together with the cast of the musical the band will chime in for full ensemble rehearsals and put everything together.

Patrick Teykl also helps with the musical and so do 20 other students that assist him in playing different instruments.

The band rehearses together to work out the music before they bring it to the stage with the cast.

“We provide music accompaniment for between scenes, before the show, after the show and for the big music numbers,” replied Teykl.

This is how the whole musical comes together with their performance.

With the band having to put all their parts together, the lead cast have to work with the rest of the cast to make the show as magical as they strive for it to be.

The lead role of Cinderella will be played by (junior) Molly Lenig, and she stated, “I’ve seen this musical twice on a professional stage, so I have been in love with the show for a really long time. I feel like Cinderella is a lot like me and her singing style really fits mine.”

The cast is quite excited to put this on stage for their show.

The memorization of lines and wardrobe changes can get stressful, reaching a nerve wracking level.

“Eventually the script comes to me, but when I first start memorizing lines it’s a bit stressful. I’m super excited about the quick change from rags to the ball gown, but I’m sure that will be a bit difficult at the start,”Molly continued.

As this show is coming together with spirit and colors the cast, band and directors are working very hard to make memorable.
