For the beginning of 2020 there are some changes being made to Cougar Road due to the amount of accidents that occurred south of Cougar Road onto State Road 2.
After 37 accidents in the past ten years, Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to make some traffic flow changes to achieve greater safety for students.
Some of the changes that INDOT are going to make to Cougar Road will be made to help reduce the accident count next year by eliminating the chance of collisions with turning vehicles.
Cougar Road will be one way traffic northbound only in between the entrance road and State Road 2. North of the entrance road will still remain a two way traffic.
On the intersection of Cougar Road and U.S. 20 will have a traffic light installed with the addition of turning lanes to Cougar Road and U.S. 20.
There are mixed feelings on the changes as it might inconvenience the people who live south of Cougar Road since they will have trouble going to and leaving the school. So they would have to go home using State Road 2.
Some fear that accidents might still happen in other ways, for example, while taking a left turn onto Cougar Road off of State Road 2, as reported by WNDU News.
Only time will tell once the adjustments are made whether they will have the intended impact.
