This year New Prairie students have seen major changes in the dress code, such as no holes above the knees.
This new rule change has caused an uproar for both New Prairie boy and girl students.
“We made changes to correspond with the middle school and other schools around us like Laporte,” Vice Principal Tim Scott stated. He also said, "Triton got rid of holes altogether."
This year many girls have had a strong opinion on the no holes.
Freshman Eva Dodd said, “It’s unfair because girls can wear athletic shorts and show a bunch of skin but we can not show skin above our knees.”
When students get sent down after being dress coded they have the choice to change into an extra pair of pants that they might have in their gym locker or book bag, otherwise they have to get duct tape on their leg to cover the holes above the knees. The last option would be a parent or guardian bringing a pair of pants from home.
“We made changes to correspond with the middle school and other schools around us like Laporte,” Said Vice Principal Tim Scott.
“Usually when someone comes down you get a choice. We first ask if they have a change of clothes, or taping our pants cause that’s quick and easy and get you right back to class, then we will call home and see if a parent or guardian can bring you in some different pants,” Scott stated.
“It is the teacher's job to enforce the rules and I know if I had a really good lesson planned for the class and I was excited about it, I may not notice till the middle of the class and may just tell you right then to go get duct tape or change your pants.”
