Faculty farewells and advice to the Class of 2020

Words of wisdom for seniors

Seniors!
As your journey begins, always remember that hard work and perseverance pays off. Be kind to yourself and others and always have confidence and compassion in the days ahead.
PEACE OUT!
Mrs. Van Goey

Dear AP Lit Seniors,
It's been a great year in AP Lit despite the pandemic! You persevered through some truly challenging work, and no matter what, I know you have all become better readers and writers. I missed our daily reading time this quarter. It was such a "Calm" start to each class (haha!). I do recommend the Calm app to anyone who could use some Zen moments while navigating college life. It definitely helps quiet the mind. Most of all, I loved the way you all invested yourselves in your selected books. It made my heart happy! Also, you KILLED Macbeth this quarter! Well, not really, that was MacDuff, but WOW! You took it and flew with it. I'm SO proud! I will miss you all and wish you the best as you continue in college. The uncertainty we feel now will work itself out and most likely evolve into something new, but you can handle it! Be confident! It looks good on you!
Love,
CWilk

Sage advice from an old guy - "Anyone can learn to hit a fastball, the key to life is learning to hit the curve balls thrown your way"

Seniors,
Just because you graduate, does not mean that we disappear as a resource...we are always here for you! Go do amazing things, but if you get stuck, please reach out so we can help!!!
Mrs. Schellinger

Always be yourself, make good choices, be kind & grab your slice of the good life!!
Mrs. Sass

Seniors:
You are probably hearing lots of things like "Follow your dreams! Become the person you want to be!" That kind of advice can make adulthood seem like a glorious quest of self actualization, which it sometimes is, but it's also really quite full of dull responsibilities like managing finances and nuisances like waiting in traffic jams. On the brink of your adulthood, I want to ask you to prepare yourself for those humdrum things too. Sure—chase your dreams! But also, please, keep your wits about you when you're navigating quotidian snags; keep in mind every person you'll ever encounter also has an inner life just like yourself. Be cool and kind. It'll take a lot of attention, spread out over a very long period of time. Also: READ BOOKS.
Mr. Holman

Take full advantage of every opportunity given and try not to sweat the small stuff!
Mrs. Erica White :)

“Beginnings are usually scary, endings are usually sad, but it's what's in the middle that counts. So when you find yourself at the beginning, just give hope a chance to float up. And it will.”  Graduation is both an ending and a beginning which is why it feels both sad and scary.  We were here with you at the beginning when freshman year initiated this phase of life.  Each of you walked in with nervous anticipation of what your four years of high school would be like.  As the year progressed, the nervousness dissipated and everyone settled in, found their place, and looked forward to never being a freshman in high school again.  Sophomore and junior year, the middle, is where the magic happened.  Friendships were made and some were lost, goals were met and new goals were set, hope for the present and future appeared.  Senior year came faster than imagined and the sadness came out of nowhere.  An end to high school and an end to childhood came quickly while some praised the precious few days left and others tried to hold on as tightly as possible.  Our time together ended much more abruptly than any of us were prepared for and that gave a deeper sadness to this end but here is where the beginning emerges.  Graduation is an ending, sure, but it is a beginning as well.  Each of you will soon step out into your future.  Just as you stepped into the excitement of high school, now you will step into the excitement of adulthood and man is it scary!  Some of you will enter the workforce, others will continue your education, dedicated few will join our military to serve us all but no matter where your path is leading know that all of us are proud to have been part of your past.  Remember to continue driving forward, setting goals and making dreams come true.  Never wait for someone to make something happen for you, you are in control of your life.  Check back in with us and let us know how the journey is going, we really do want to know!
Congratulations Class of 2020!
Mrs. Kubsch

A professor of mine once told me to always "Use your words as a gift!" I have always tried to use this before I write or speak - it is appropriate to all!
Mrs. Romstadt

Try everything once, travel as often as you can, and look out for one another.
Ms. Spevak

Perseverance: Most things in life can be achieved if you make the choice to persevere. Many of you have shown this quality throughout this very trying experience. Don't ever give up! If you hit a wall, get a ladder. If something blocks your path, build a bridge. And always remember, we are always here to lend a helping hand or a word of encouragement if you ever need it.
Congratulations Class of 2020!
Mrs. Spoor

You have the world in your hands! Best of luck as you march into the future!
