Fall break activities

With fall break coming up, there are a lot of fun activities to do, but sometimes people might need some ideas.

Guidance counselor, Heidi Schellinger, loves to DIY her kids’ costumes for Halloween,

“We usually do a DIY costume and they have a theme. So, this year they’re going to be the four people from Mario Kart, and I’m going to be the princess.”

Schellinger also mentioned a vacation she went on thanks to Kim Holifield last fall break.

“Last fall break Mrs. Holifield had a stay planned up in Wisconsin dells and was not able to use it, so she let us stay, all 6 of us, for free up in the dells for 3 days and it was awesome. It was probably our first get away because my baby was still a year old.” She explained.

“We also do the traditional pumpkin patch, we actually just went to Thistleberry Farms. Football games too, football runs my family’s lives,” Schellinger added.

Sophomore Cydney Palmer likes to go the comfy route and cozy up at home.

“The most fun fall activity is getting to sit down with a cup of hot chocolate and watching the classic Halloween movies like Halloweentown!” Palmer said.

Palmer also likes the scary activities.

“I LOVE going to haunted houses, spooky season is my favorite! The Amhurst Asylum is on my fall bucket list this year,” she added.

Similarly, freshman Kendall Dahms mentioned some of her fall favorites.

“Over the break I like to hang out with friends and watch scary movies,” Dahms said.

“The most fun fall break activity away from home is definitely going to a haunted house with friends,” Dahms added she would put ‘carving pumpkins and watching a projected scary movie outside with friends’ on her fall bucket list.

Sophomore Jane Hartsell likes the wholesome time she spends with family over fall break.

“My family and I always go to this really neat place that has a bunch of fun activities. They have the normal corn maze, but they also have a petting zoo, games, and a hamster wheel,” Hartsell said.

“In my opinion, my favorite thing to do that I think is the most fun, is just being with family. Spending time with family never gets old. There are always more memories to be made with more laughter.”

To get a more diverse opinion on fall activities, a poll was put up on Schoology for students to share what they like to do over fall break.

Going with the common fall break hobbies, 17.4% of the students say their favorite fall activity is pumpkin carving, while 21.1% say watching scary movies is their favorite. A majority of students have haunted houses at the top of their list with 25.7%.

Students also had the option to put their own personal opinion with some of the custom responses being bonfires with friends, hunting and fishing, sleeping, and going on vacation with family.
