Girls’ bathroom baskets benefiting students

This year principal Jen Sass had the idea to help girls out who may be a little embarrassed to ask for feminine products. Guidance counselors Heidi Schellinger, Megan Dew and Sass, worked together to put baskets containing a variety of free feminine products in the girls bathrooms.

In every girls restroom is a basket of “pads, tampons and little lotions,” according to Schellinger. Schellinger thinks the baskets are a good idea.

“There’s more comfortability for students.” Dew added

“I’ve always had those items in my office and I think people don’t really notice they’re there so this is just that they’re more visible.” , she said.

Schellinger thinks that one of the benefits of the baskets is that, “There’s more comfortability for students.” Dew added, “And they’re probably not as embarrassed.”

Schellinger gave credit to Mrs. Sass for the idea.

“Mrs. Sass gets credit for that. I asked for donations from teachers last year to have in the office but it was Mrs. Sass’ idea to actually get the baskets and distribute them in the bathrooms.”

Sophomore Maddie McSurley likes the baskets a lot because if girls don’t have anything they can find it free in the bathrooms.

“They make me a lot more comfortable.” McSurely said.

Sophomore Mallorie Lagard added that “They’re convenient for the girls.”

“They benefit girls so that if an accident happens they will have a backup.” Lagard said. “They could benefit me by helping me in a situation I wasn’t prepared for.”
