New Prairie High School jumps into reading in new library

Writer: Emily PaulEmily Paul

Poetry, fiction, physics, and psychology. Read about it all within the new library! Blake Holman, the librarian, is eager to excite students into falling in love with reading.

Welcoming students into the library is something that everyone would love to do, especially the students at Cocoa Café.

Cocoa Café is a club that takes place on Fridays after school. Students and their friends can talk about the books they have read or would like to read!

Students can speak of romance novels. They could speak of daring adventures, paranormal encounters. How about a terrifying tale of the ocean? Anything is possible in Cocoa Café!

Of course the library can’t have a Cocoa Café without cocoa! For more details, please contact Blake Holman. Everybody is welcome.

The new library is a broad and bright new place to explore, located next to the cafeteria annex. Students can get inside through the annex as well, making it an enjoyable place to eat your meal.

Hailey Husch, freshman, stated,  “It seems like a cozy library where you can just chill and read a good book.”

Junior Jozlynn Garner said, “The library makes me feel happy and sort of at peace. I can walk in there knowing that other people there, have the same interest as me.”

Mr. Holman, the librarian, said that he likes the new library.  He enjoys his new things and he hopes the students do as well.

The general vibe of the library is more homey to students, especially now that there aren't any alarms for books and such.

However, that doesn’t mean students can steal the books. there are cameras preventing that. Mr. Holman is also a guardian of the books, keeping them safe from thieves.

However, there will be even more to do in the library.

Mr. Holman stated, “My favorite part is yet to come. More furniture is due to be delivered in December or January. When that happens, I’ll set up one of the side rooms as a kind of reading lounge, and I’ll install a shrimp tank!”

These things make the students at NPHS very excited.

Holman continued, “A shrimp tank adds the same chilled-out ambiance as a fish tank, but it’s easier to take care of.”

These further additions will be arriving throughout the school year, keeping Holman and NP students on the edge of their seat with anticipation.

Holman added, “Also, inspired by a student’s suggestion, Mrs. Kubsch is going to give me a mannequin to model books.”

These things are yet to come, but the students are eager for their arrival. Mr. Holman stated this very important message about the library as a message to all students.

“It’s full of great books! Check ‘em out! If I don’t have a book that you want, then I’m open to recommendations. If you are in the mood for a certain type of book, I can help you find options. The library is here for you!”
