New Prairie sings for joy with new choir director

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

Whether you love to sing, dance, or not, you can’t help but notice there Is a new face in the choir classroom. This new face is Everett Forrester, the new choir director.

Forrester is a teacher who came to NP a few months ago, but he seems like he has been here forever, fitting in perfectly.

Although Forrester did not know about the New Prairie United School Corporation before he joined, he is happy that he did so.

“As a music educator, I love my job,” Forrester said, “I have always loved music and making wonderful musical experiences. It makes it all the better to guide students through these types of experiences, and to see their growth, and help them create and interpret what the composer wanted to communicate.”

The students seem to enjoy him as well, working hard and making him feel at home in his classroom. Forrester seems to enjoy their company as well.

“It makes me very happy, especially when I see students who want to do well, and work so hard to reach their dreams,” Forrester explained.

Forrester seems to be a kind soul, a gifted teacher and a wonderful face to have in the community.  Forrester said his favorite part of his job is to see "the lives of students transformed through music.”

Forrester has hopes for his career, though, wanting to see it flourish along with his students. “In the future I would like to see enough male students to be in the choir that we could have a men’s choir ensemble,” Forrester explained.

To achieve his dream he needs more male students to join choir. There are auditions that are held at the end of the year. Contact Mr. Forrester if you are interested in joining the choir. He can assist you, as well as the guidance counselors.

Forrester's students have responded positively to his arrival at NP.

“He has been doing a good job,” said junior choir student Autumn Reeves, “I still think the choir sounds good, though that might be because I just enjoy music in general so everything sounds good to me.”

A loving and welcoming outcome to someone new, the students seem to enjoy their new teacher.

“I still think the choir is doing really good! I haven’t been to a show yet, but I’ve seen the videos, and they all still sound beautiful!” Reeves added.

While students are positive of Forrester's interactions with our choirs, they have had to adjust to some differences in teaching style.

“I love Mr. Forrester! He's a cheerful dork and he reminds me a lot of [Mr.] Bennett, but he's much chirpier,” Stated junior Jenna Fuzey, “He's doing a phenomenal job, but working at his speed has been an adjustment.”

See Mr. Forrester and our choirs in action at the Holiday Concert in our new auditorium this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7 at 6 p.m. CST.
