NPHS switches to two lunches

Writer: Anna WittersAnna Witters

New year, new schedule. This year, New Prairie High School has switched from three lunches to two.

Many students have been left wondering what the exact reason is.

“One thing we noticed is that many students began to fail classes and stop doing their homework.”,says principal Jen Sass.

The administrators decided to switch to mentor everyday so those students could get the help they need. It was just easier for the schedule to switch to two lunches.

Many students have been concerned about the number of seating in the cafeteria.

The new cafeteria annex opened up a lot of new seating, which made it easier. However “with the library being closed for construction, we realized quite quickly how many people actually eat there,” Sass said. Once the new library opens, a lot of free seating will open up.

Sass also added that “switching the schedule made it much more flexible.”

With more students in a lunch, the lines will obviously be longer. The administration has taken this into consideration and has made a few changes.

“They added another lunch line, added a register, and are even adding a couple lines that will be a surprise in the future.”

The administration decided that with all of that going on, it would just be easier to switch to two lunches.

Sass also added that “switching the schedule made it much more flexible.”

For example, if a student wants to take both Student Media and Yearbook, those are both offered the same hour. Changing the schedule made it much easier to open up room for students who had that type of issue.

The administration hopes this will be a good change for NPHS and are excited to see how it plays out.
