Student Highlight- Chloe Healy

Freshman Chloe Healy founded and maintains two foundations to benefit local families in our area.

Nominated for our first student profile by her friend Kaylee Koloj, Chloe embodies a selfless soul who deeply cares about her community.

Koloj describes her as selfless, hardworking, positive, and “just plain awesome.”

Last year, Chloe met her friend Evan Haws when he was placed at the locker next to hers. Over time he confided in her about some of the struggles he and his family were facing.

The Haws family has six children, all ranging from ages 7 to 25. Christy Haws, Evan’s mom, had been battling stage four lung cancer and her husband John had been out of work for two years due to a back injury. They were struggling to make ends meet with such a large family.

Healy was touched by Haw’s courageous battle, and decided to help as much as she could. She created the Hope for Haws Foundation to help raise money for the family.

“Christy and her amazing family will always hold a special place in my heart,'' said Healy.

The New Prairie community really came together for the Haws family in their difficult time.

“This has had an impact on not only Christy and her family, but also our entire community and school. It was amazing seeing students, families, and the entire community coming together to show their love and support during this difficult time,” believes Healy. “It really showed the unity of this community and school to come together to support one another.”

Healy is a member of three clubs this year: HOSA, Student Senate, and Key Club.

“I enjoy working as a team and with others to be a part of something much greater than ourselves. It’s also a great way for me, as a freshman, to get to know and work with other students,” Healy explained.

Healy not only started one foundation, but two. The Carrying Hope Foundation was created in honor of Christy Haws and her compassion and legacy. She partnered with Dan Trent and the Haws family to spread Christmas cheer to families in need in our community.

“I founded this because I feel it’s important to continue on with showing God’s love and support for other families the way I did with the Haws,” explained Healy, “I hope that if Christy were here that we would be making her proud and happy to know that we continue her legacy and freely give to others the way God freely gives to us.”

Chloe is extremely grateful for the impact her work has made on her.

“My charity work makes me feel like God is using my hands and my compassion to do some of his work here on Earth and inspire people along the way to do the same,” she said.

She is very thankful to where her trials in life have led her now.

“I hope to share my testimony with people and kids that feel as though their situation may never get better, or that they do not have a purpose. You use what was meant to break you and use it for good,” shared Healy.

Healy is especially grateful for the support around her.

“I’ve gotten so much support from people around me, such as the community, my friends, the Haws family, and my family, especially my parents. I couldn’t be more grateful for the people who have helped me along the way, and I know I could not do what I do without each and every one of them,” Healy expressed.
